Common Questions

We are one of the few local authorized dealers that carry a diverse range from Pride Mobility (Jazzy series), Golden Technologies (Compass and LiteRider), the futuristic WHILL (Model C2 and F), and even complex rehab brands like Quantum Rehab and Permobil. For high-value, budget-friendly options, we also carry Vive Health.

As someone who’s been in this business for decades, we tell everyone: A powerchair is only as good as the technician who can fix it.

If you buy online and a motor fails, you’re stuck with a 200lb paperweight. When you buy from us, you get our local Repair Division. We troubleshoot, repair, and handle the warranty paperwork right here in North Olmsted.

No, we do not accept insurance. By operating as a private-pay retail store, we avoid the 6-month wait times and the "least-expensive-alternative" rules insurance companies use. You get the high-end chair you actually want (like a Quantum or Whill) immediately, rather than the basic model insurance dictates.

Mid-Wheel Drive (like the Jazzy Elite): The chair literally turns on its own axis. It's the king of indoor maneuverability.

Rear-Wheel Drive: Better for outdoor stability and "tracking" straight on sidewalks.

Front-Wheel Drive (like some Permobil models): Great for climbing over small obstacles or transitions in older Cleveland homes.

No, we do not accept insurance. By operating as a private-pay retail store, we avoid the 6-month wait times and the "least-expensive-alternative" rules insurance companies use. Yes! If you have a doctor’s prescription for the powerchair, we can remove the Ohio sales tax. This often saves our customers hundreds of dollars—sometimes more than the difference of a "sale" price online.

Typically, you’ll look at 12 to 18 months for lead-acid batteries. If you upgrade to a lithium-ion model (common in WHILL or portable units), they can last much longer. We stock replacement batteries and can install them in about 45 minutes in our shop.

It’s a common fear! When you pick up a chair from us, our team spends time with you on the showroom floor.

We can actually reprogram certain controllers to be "gentle"—slowing down the acceleration and max speed until you feel confident.

However, over time, for most of our customers, you will get the hang of it. It is like being 16 again and driving a car!

Most are! Nearly all Pride, Golden, and WHILL portable units use "dry-cell" or "lithium" batteries that are airline compliant. We provide the battery data sheets you need to show the TSA or airline staff to ensure a smooth boarding process.

It can be. This is exactly why we suggest a "test drive" at our showroom OR in your home (for select models & location).

Many modern chairs, like the Jazzy Ultralight or WHILL F, are designed specifically for compact living. We can measure the "base width" of the chair against your door measurements.

If it's a tight squeeze, we look at Mid-Wheel Drive models that turn in place, preventing you from scuffing your baseboards.

Every powerchair has a Freewheel Lever. If the battery dies or a fuse blows, you flip that lever, and the chair can be pushed like a manual wheelchair. When you buy from us, we make sure you (and your caregiver) know exactly where those levers are before you leave the store.

Access CLE with your Powerchair: a guide to the best of Cleveland, OH

  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Expansion: By late 2026, the $175 million expansion will be fully open. It adds 50,000 square feet, new performance venues, and a much-needed ADA-accessible community park that connects the museum directly to the Lake Erie waterfront.

  • Cleveland Metroparks Zoo – Primate Forest: 2026 marks the debut of the Primate Forest, a massive new habitat for orangutans and gorillas. It’s one of the zoo's biggest expansions in a century and features high-tech galleries that are very easy to navigate.

  • The "New" West Side Market (Renovation Completion 2026): The iconic West Side Market is finishing a $70 million overhaul. For the first time in a century, it is truly "power-chair friendly."

  • America250 Celebrations: As the nation celebrates its 250th birthday, Cleveland is a primary hub. Look for "Murals Across Ohio" throughout the city and special innovators' exhibits at the Cleveland History Center in University Circle.

The Modern Community Hub: Lekko Coffee (Ohio City & Warehouse District)

If you want to feel the energy of "New Cleveland," Lekko Coffee is the place. Founded by an architect and a musician, the design is as much a priority as the craft coffee.

  • The Vibe: Airy, Scandinavian-inspired design with massive windows, local art, and a "living wage" mission. It’s hip, bright, and incredibly welcoming.
  • Why it’s perfect for you: The Ohio City flagship (Detroit Ave) was designed with wide-open floor plans. The Warehouse District location (opened in 2025) follows suit with level entries and spacious seating that doesn't force you to navigate a "maze" of tables.
  • The Access: Both locations feature zero-step entries and high-clearance counters. There is convenient parking located behind the Ohio City shop, which is rare for the neighborhood.

The Industrial Art Experience: 78th Street Studios

Located in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood, this massive former car dealership is now the heartbeat of Cleveland’s modern art scene.

  • The Vibe: Over 60 galleries and artist studios under one roof. It is hip, industrial, and completely sophisticated.
  • The Access: Don't let the old-school exterior fool you. There is a massive freight elevator (with an attendant) at the west end of the building that can easily accommodate large powerchairs and caregivers.
  • Pro Tip: Go during Third Friday Art Walks. The hallways are wide enough for a "convoy" of scooters, and the galleries have wide-entry doors.

For the Engineering Mind: DHS Diecast (Berea)

Just a short drive from our North Olmsted showroom is a world-renowned destination for collectors and fans of heavy machinery.

  • The Vibe: DHS Diecast specializes in museum-quality, scale models of construction and truck equipment. It’s a fascinating place to explore high-end engineering in miniature.
  • The Access: Their showroom is level-entry, quiet, and spacious. It’s a peaceful place to explore, and the staff is used to helping customers navigate the displays.

High-Tech Sensory Thrill: Museum of Illusions

New to Downtown Cleveland, this spot is a hit with younger crowds but is scientifically fascinating for adults.

  • The Vibe: Optical illusions, holograms, and "anti-gravity" rooms that trick your brain using geometry and psychology.
  • The Access: Built in 2024 with modern codes, the Museum of Illusions is 100% scooter and powerchair accessible.
  • Powerchair Advantage: Many of the optical illusions are at the exact eye level of a seated powerchair user, often providing a better "photo angle" than those standing!

Modern Vintage: "All Things For You" (Tremont)

This isn't your grandma’s dusty antique shop. It’s a high-end, curated "vintage department store" that feels like walking through a 1950s movie set.

  • The Vibe: 25+ dealers of Mid-Century Modern furniture, unique Cleveland memorabilia, and artisanal decor.
  • The Access: While many Tremont shops are "stair-heavy," All Things For You features a level-entry and wide pathways that allow you to browse high-end collectibles without the fear of knocking things over.

Boutique Shopping: 5th Street Arcades

Located downtown, these historic arcades have been filled with modern, "hip" boutiques that offer a younger aesthetic with old-world service.

  • The Vibe: Stores like Intro Boutique offer contemporary fashion and unique gifts in a stunning glass-enclosed mall.
  • The Access: The arcades are a flat-surface dream. You can roll from Superior Ave to Euclid Ave through beautiful architecture with zero curbs or steps, stopping at a dozen niche shops along the way.

University Circle is arguably the most concentrated area of culture in the country. Almost everything here is within a few blocks and very accessible for those using power mobility or scooters.

  • Cleveland Museum of Art: It’s free, world-class, and incredibly spacious. The atrium is a perfect place to rest with a coffee. Don't miss the Renaissance to Runway Italian fashion exhibit running through early 2026.

  • Cleveland Botanical Garden: A peaceful retreat with indoor glasshouses (Costa Rican rainforest and Madagascar desert). The paths are paved and easy to navigate.

  • Cleveland Museum of Natural History (2026 Transformation): This isn't the museum you remember from 20 years ago. After a massive $150 million transformation finishing in 2026, it is now one of the most accessible science centers in the world.
They are Wheel the World Verified, meaning every slope and elevator has been measured for powerchair clearance.

  • Severance Music Center: Home to the Cleveland Orchestra. Even if you don't see a show, the architecture is breathtaking. It’s widely considered one of the finest concert halls in the world.

Rockefeller Park Greenhouse & Gardens: Just down the road is a hidden gem that many locals forget about.

  • The Greenhouses: The indoor paths are paved and ADA-compliant, making it a perfect year-round tropical escape even in a Cleveland winter.
  • The "Talking" Garden: Don't miss the Betty Ott Talking Garden for the Blind. While designed for visual impairment, the layout is exceptionally spacious for mobility devices, featuring tactile plants and audio descriptions.
  • Parking: There is a dedicated, small parking lot right in front of the greenhouse entrance with multiple van-accessible spots.

Lake View Cemetery: It sounds odd to suggest a cemetery, but this is a massive park of monuments. You can visit the James A. Garfield Memorial or the Wade Chapel (which has a rare Tiffany-designed interior).

78th Street Studios: On the West Side near Detroit-Shoreway. It’s a massive multi-story warehouse full of art galleries. They have elevators and ramps, making it a great indoor "art walk" for a Friday night.

STEAK (Chagrin Falls - New for 2026)

The viral success of STEAK in Tremont has expanded to a massive new location in Chagrin Falls for 2026.

  • The Design: Unlike the tight quarters of historic Chagrin buildings, this was a complete transformation designed with a playful, open-flow vibe.
  • Accessibility: Features wide-aisle seating and an all-inclusive price structure that removes the "ordering stress."

Funshi (Beachwood & Avon)

If you want "hip and high-tech," head to Funshi.

  • The "Robot" Factor: They utilize robot drink runners and conveyor-belt sushi.
  • Why it works for you: Tablet-based ordering at the table means you don't have to flag down a server or move around to see a menu. The floor plans are modern, sleek, and entirely level to accommodate the robot fleet—which means your powerchair will have plenty of room to maneuver.

Mallorca (Downtown / Warehouse District)

For a "Classic Cleveland" feel that actually cares about your access, go to Mallorca.

  • Verified Access: They are specifically designated as an accessible dining destination with low-top tables and wide pathways.
  • The Vibe: Known for their Spanish/Portuguese seafood, the staff here is famous for being incredibly accommodating to guests with mobility needs.

In 2026, Cleveland has officially partnered with Wheel the World to provide verified accessibility data for hotels and attractions. If you are using a mobility device, you can check their site or ThisIsCleveland.com to see exactly which entries, ramps, and bathrooms are verified for your specific equipment.
